Senior Demand Planning Specialist

Job Description:

The Senior Demand Planning Specialist is responsible for managing an evolving 12-month rolling forecast for each of Liberty’s Distribution Centers at the SKU and customer level.

The Senior Demand Planning specialist maintains a statistically driven forecast as a baseline, and then analyzes changes to the forecast with cross-functional inputs included. This analysis includes regularly compiling inputs from the National Retail Sales team, local key accounts, and distribution centers. This role is responsible for considering the timelines for SKU introductions & portfolio rationalization, and modeling how new product cannibalization and SKU exits will impact total demand. This role is also responsible for analyzing sales history irregularities and determining how those should be accounted for in future demand.

The Senior Demand Planning Specialist is responsible for releasing the updated forecast to Product Supply each week to determine production needs and upcoming product deployment requirements. 

This role is responsible for providing key data to support Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP), Life Cycle, and Master Data to ensure information integrity. This role regularly works in conjunction with the CRAFT Analyst and is responsible for communicating Liberty’s forecast to external partners.

This role also functions as the main focal point for APO/JDA input and maintenance, along with being the SME on issues relating to the technical workings of APO & JDA.


  • Bachelor’s Degree in STEM or Business Administration required, with higher education or focus on Forecasting, Regression, Statistics, or Supply Chain Management preferred.
  • 5 years+ Demand Planning and/or Forecasting Experience. Additional experience in Supply Chain, Sales, RGM, or Procurement is preferred.
  • Prior work experience in CPG industry preferred
  • Experience in SAP APO and JDA/Blue Yonder required
  • Experience in Anaplan and/or PowerBI preferred
  • Demonstrated expertise in the use of forecasting models required
  • High analytical aptitude and advanced Excel skills required
  • Lean, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodology experience preferred
  • Certification in CPIM, CSCP, CLTD preferred
  • Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) experience preferred
  • Ability to be detail-oriented in fast paced, ever changing environment.
  • Experience in successfully working with cross-functional business partners (Deployment Planning, Product Life Cycle, Production, Sales, Commercialization).

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Function as the primary technical APO and JDA Demand Planning Resource.
  • Generate a statistical volume forecast for a 12-month horizon by territory, customer, SKU, and week.
  • For the short- to mid-term forecast, incorporate insights from key business partners to develop more accurate demand signals.
  • Review forecasts for product introductions, product discontinuation and product suspensions, working closely with key business partners such as Commercialization, RGM, and Sales.
  • Incorporate late-breaking changes and insights into both the business forecast and SKU level forecast.
  • Perform weekly trend & volume analysis to identify gaps between the short-term forecast and the annual business plan
  • Analyze forecast accuracy & forecast error at the territory/SKU level and the company aggregate level.
  • Take initiative to develop techniques to improve forecast accuracy and communicate gaps to Sales & Distribution partners.
  • Provide analytics and insight to data driving long-term S&OP goals
  • Identify opportunities for continuous process improvement and have the ambition to manage and own business changes
  • Partner with Continuous Improvement/Operations Excellence leads and IT to actively resolved data and system issues.
